Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each. Henry Thoreau

The above picture was taken at my parents house a few springs ago. They have daffodils that bloom every year. Daffodils really aren't my favorite flower, I don't really care for them too much. But I like how this picture turned out. And since I know sometimes I begin to like something more after I learn about it, I decided to learn about the daffodil flower.
Their scientific classification is Narcissus, and according to Wikipedia, "The ancient Greeks believed this plant originated from the vain youth, Narcissus. He died after becoming so obsessed with his reflection in a pool he could not leave. The Greeks say that the gods turned his remains into the Narcissus flower. " This flower is also important in Chinese culture as the flower brings good luck. It is the national flower of Wales. It is also a symbol for cancer research. The link below is for the American Cancer Society, and it does a good job of explaining the daffodil symbol:

So after learning about the daffodil, I do appreciate it more!
My next post about flowers will talk about the rose, as it is Phil's favorite flower, and the main flowers we used at our wedding. I have a picture of a rose he cut for me for my birthday a few years ago.
