Happy Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in USA. It is always on a Thursday, usually the last Thursday of November. My family tradition is to have a large turkey dinner at either my Mom's mom's house or at my parents' house. This year, it is being held at my parents house. My mom (and usually one of us kids, this year my brother) make the turkey with the stuffing (stuffing is bread cubes, a creamy soup, veggies and spices mixed together and baked inside the turkey) and the gravy. Then others bring dishes or help bake them at my parents'. This year I am making two desserts - one is church windows which is chocolate-covered marshmallows, and the other is sweet potato pie. I'm not sure how well the pie crust will turn out the first time, I hear it is very hard to make pie crust turn out right. But we shall see!

Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate the things that we are thankful for. I am thankful for my family, my job, food and shelter and that beauty can be found in nearly everything. What are you thankful for?

We're supposed to get the first "real" snow tomorrow and Friday, yay! We have seen snowflakes but just a few and not enough to dust the ground. It will be nice to see the first snow!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Halloween Picture

Hello!

I promised that I would post a photo from our Halloween party, and here it is! I should have put more white paint on my face, but oh well!

One of the things that is somewhat frustrating for many people I know is how in America, we go right from Halloween to Christmas - no Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is a time to remember how fortunate we are and to remember the stories of how our ancestors began their life on American soil. It is a time to remember how blessed we are and to feel grateful for the food we eat, the clothes on our back and the roof over our heads. In the Walmart in my town they were stocking Christmas decorations and candy the week before Halloween! I was so angry. Now all I see is the rush to get Christmas presents for your friends and family so that you will be ready for Christmas, which is over a month away.

On Thanksgiving I will be going to my mom's mom house. We only see that family on Good Friday (by Easter) and Thanksgiving, so I am excited to go over there. She makes the best mashed potatoes and gravy!! I am making myself hungry!!

Height difference

I am currently watching the women's volleyball tournament live. Quoting from the Federation International Volleyball's(FIVB) book of rules, volleyball is supposed to be fast, exciting and explosive. Of course, for whoever that wrote the rules, they forgot to mention that player's height matters too. I might be whining because one might says basketball players are tall too. Look at Yao Ming. However, basketball scoring is through individuals whereas volleyball scores are through the creativity of the team. It will be a boring match if you have tall players playing against shorter players. And some countries do have this advantage compared to other countries, which means that countries with short players will never have the chance to taste the gold medal no matter how good and powerful they are. I hope the FIVB will put the player's height into consideration in the future. My suggestion is that players as tall as the volleyball net can play, but they cannot be in the court for the whole entire set game.
